How Does Botox® Work?
When Botox® is injected in facial muscles, it can decrease lines and wrinkles that are formed from facial expression.* Botox® is in the pharmaceutical class of ‘neuromodulator’ because it blocks the communication between the nerve and the muscle, thus making the local muscle around the injection paralyzed. Other neuromodulators include Dysport and Xeomin. Botox® is the most widely recognized neuromodulator and was first on the market. There are some subtle differences between Botox® and their competitors. Dr. Wright is a board-certified surgeon and can answer all your questions about Botox®. Where is Botox® used?
We use Botox® in the glabellar area to correct the frown lines between the eyebrows. Many clients call these the “11’s”. We also inject Botox® on the forehead for horizontal lines. ‘Crow’s feet’ are generally well treated with Botox® and are one of the most popular areas of treatment. The areas around the mouth can be injected to give the corners of your mouth a lift and may be used to treat lip lines. Platysmal bands can be injected to give the neck a lift and the chin to reduce dimpling. We often inject Botox® in the armpits for hyperhidrosis, although it is not a requirement to enjoy the benefits of this treatment. When injected into the armpits or palms of the hands, sweating is significantly reduced.*

Botox® can also be injected into the masseter muscle for symptoms of TMJ. This injection may also make the jawline appear less square and more rounded. It is also possible to change the arch in your eyebrows with careful injections to the forehead. Many clients enjoy a chemical brow lift with Botox® that gives the brow’s a higher and fresher look.
