CoolSculpting Elite vs. Emsculpt NEO in Austin: How They Differ and When You Need One (or Both)

If you are doing the work in the gym and watching what you eat but still cannot get rid of a stubborn pocket of fat, or you want more tone and definition than diet and exercise alone will give you, you are not alone. Two of the most popular non-surgical body contouring treatments in Austin, CoolSculpting Elite and Emsculpt NEO, were built for exactly these problems. The catch is that they do very different things, and patients often confuse the two.

The short answer: CoolSculpting Elite freezes and removes stubborn fat. Emsculpt NEO builds muscle and burns fat at the same time. If your goal is reducing a pinchable fat pocket, CoolSculpting Elite is usually the answer. If you want to tone and strengthen a muscle while also trimming fat, Emsculpt NEO is the better fit. And for the most complete transformation, many of our Austin patients combine both.

Here is a side-by-side breakdown to help you understand the difference and figure out which one (or which combination) is right for you.

How CoolSculpting Elite Works

CoolSculpting Elite is the latest generation of the world’s most popular non-surgical fat reduction treatment. It uses controlled cooling to freeze the fat cells in a targeted area. Once frozen, those fat cells are destroyed and then naturally processed and eliminated by your body over the following weeks and months. Because the fat cells are gone for good, the results are long-lasting as long as you maintain your weight. The Elite generation uses redesigned applicators that treat more fat in less time and let us treat two areas at once.

CoolSculpting Elite is ideal for stubborn fat that resists diet and exercise: the abdomen, flanks (love handles), inner and outer thighs, upper arms, back, bra fat, the double chin, and under the buttocks. It is not a weight-loss treatment; it is a fat-reduction and contouring treatment for people who are near their goal weight. Learn more about CoolSculpting Elite.

How Emsculpt NEO Works

Emsculpt NEO is the first device that combines two technologies in one treatment: radiofrequency heating, which warms and reduces fat, and high-intensity electromagnetic energy (HIFEM+), which triggers powerful muscle contractions far stronger than you could achieve in a workout. The result is that Emsculpt NEO reduces fat and builds muscle at the same time, which is something fat-reduction treatments alone cannot do. A typical plan is four 30-minute sessions over a few weeks, with no downtime.

Emsculpt NEO is used to strengthen and define the abdomen, buttocks, arms, thighs, and calves. It is a great fit if you want to tighten your core, lift and shape the glutes, or push past a plateau in your fitness. Learn more about Emsculpt NEO.

The Key Difference: Fat Reduction vs. Fat + Muscle

If you remember one thing, remember this: CoolSculpting Elite only addresses fat, while Emsculpt NEO addresses fat and muscle. CoolSculpting is a precision tool for removing a specific bulge. Emsculpt NEO is a body-sculpting tool that also reshapes the muscle underneath the fat. That single difference drives almost every decision about which treatment is right for a given goal and a given area of the body.

When to Choose CoolSculpting Elite

  • You can pinch the fat you want gone, and your main goal is to reduce it.
  • You are at or near your goal weight but have an area that will not budge.
  • You want to treat areas where muscle building does not apply, like the double chin, bra fat, or back fat.
  • You want a permanent reduction in fat cells in the treated area.

When to Choose Emsculpt NEO

  • You want more muscle tone and definition, not just less fat.
  • You are fairly fit and want to enhance your results or break through a plateau.
  • You want to strengthen your core, lift the glutes, or shape your arms, thighs, or calves.
  • You would like to reduce fat and build muscle in the same area without surgery or downtime.

When to Combine Both: The Body-Contouring Power Duo

For a lot of patients, the best results come from using both treatments together. CoolSculpting Elite removes the stubborn fat layer, and Emsculpt NEO builds and defines the muscle beneath it. Picture the abdomen: CoolSculpting Elite reduces the fat over the midsection, and Emsculpt NEO strengthens and sculpts the underlying core for a flatter, more defined result than either treatment could deliver on its own. When patients pair the two, we usually reduce the fat first and then build the muscle, all mapped out in a single plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Emsculpt NEO better than CoolSculpting?

Neither is “better”, they solve different problems. CoolSculpting Elite is the better choice when your only goal is reducing stubborn fat in a pinchable area. Emsculpt NEO is the better choice when you also want to build and define muscle. Many patients get the most complete result by combining the two.

Can you do CoolSculpting and Emsculpt at the same time?

Yes. Because CoolSculpting Elite targets fat and Emsculpt NEO targets both fat and muscle, the two treatments complement each other and are frequently paired in one body-contouring plan. Your provider will sequence them based on your goals and the areas being treated.

Which should I do first, CoolSculpting or Emsculpt?

It depends on your primary concern. If you have a larger fat pocket, providers often start with CoolSculpting Elite to reduce the fat, then use Emsculpt NEO to build and define the muscle underneath. During your consultation we map out the order that makes sense for your body.

Does CoolSculpting or Emsculpt last longer?

CoolSculpting Elite permanently reduces the number of fat cells in the treated area, so those results are long-lasting as long as you maintain your weight. Emsculpt NEO’s fat reduction is also lasting, but the muscle gains require periodic maintenance sessions and a healthy routine to keep, similar to staying in shape at the gym.

Is CoolSculpting or Emsculpt better for belly fat?

For pure fat reduction on the abdomen, CoolSculpting Elite is the go-to. If your goal is a flatter, more toned and defined midsection, not just less fat, Emsculpt NEO adds the muscle component. For many patients, the abdomen is exactly where combining both pays off most.

How much do CoolSculpting and Emsculpt NEO cost in Austin?

Pricing depends on how many areas you treat and how many sessions your plan calls for, which is why we build a custom quote at your free consultation. We also run regular specials on both treatments, so ask about current offers when you come in.

I saw their Botox special on social media. That led to yelp and google reviews which are awesome. I was created with kindness and was taken to the treatment room right away. I didn’t have to wait. Dana came in and is an expert. Her education is impressive. We discussed realistic expectations and other options to help with my concerns. Their packages are worth it and not overly expensive. I also connected with Paloma about microneedling. Once I went over their monthly membership, it gets me a facial every month and a set Botox price of $10 per unit. Other perks as well. I’m stoked I found my new care team. Try them, I bet you’ll love them too.

During and after completing Ultherapy and microneedling sessions with Paloma, I vowed I would tell everyone about my outstanding, even “pleasurable” experience with her. And then there was Spring Break. That was mid March, and now it’s early May. The vow keeps pricking my mind, and I just realized, this is actually a very good time to follow through with it. I should begin by saying I’ll be 70yo in November, so I’ve not been generating collagen several decades now, and gravity has taken its toll. My lower face was beginning to sag, and my neck was getting the “turkey flap.” The skin along my jawline had loosened, and the marionette lines around my mouth were deepening. I had dimpling in the chin area, and I don’t even have dimples! What to do? I’d filled them before and wasn’t thrilled. Filler is a tricky thing with me; maybe because I’m thin skinned or simply because I’m older? I’m vain and wasn’t liking the way I looked, but what to do when you don’t have the pocketbook for a face lift, or even just a lower face and neck lift? After consulting with our cherished Dr. Wright, it was decided I’d best be able to reach my goals with separate sessions of both Ultherapy and Microneedling. She paired me with Paloma, and wow, how could an Ultherapy session ever be described as “pleasurable?” Paloma is one of the most engaging, amusing, compassionate, and PROFESSIONAL souls ever. She’s also VERY SKILLED and VERY FOCUSED. How is she so attentive, fun and kind while remaining so intense, concentrating on her work at hand? Throughout the session, I wondered how we could chat so easily as she simultaneously passed the wand that delivered energy waves into to the deeper levels of skin, and calmly reassuring me all the while? She carefully navigated the whole of my face and neck, section by section, always attentive to what the screen was cuing, while keeping me distracted from the “pings.” I’d had this procedure once before with Dr. Jessica, perhaps a decade ago, but I didn’t recall it being this intense. I guess ten years changes things, or maybe the way I experience them? Paloma deliberately told me ahead of time which areas would be more sensitive, and she’d talk me through them with her soft voice and engaging conversation. She used words to encourage me: “One more quick one here,” or “next I’ll be working here, and it will be easier for you.” We spoke about the areas that especially bothered me, and she passed the wand delivering heat energy, and focusing more on those concerns. I don’t have enough knowledge about Ultherapy to speak too confidently, but Paloma may have said the wand signaled where to direct more heat, and she did so either by making another pass or by increasing the intensity of the energy waves? What I DO know is that it’s 2 months later, and I’m FEELING and VISIBLY SEEING the results! I know if I return someday, I’ll be seeing Paloma! Needless to say, I am very pleased, grateful, and happy with the results! Thank you so much, Paloma, and thank you, Dr. Jessica!

Love this place! Dr. Wright is awesome, fun to talk to and good at what she does. I had the Botox/disport, and it lasted 6 months, she used just enough to make the forehead look natural and I can still move and have expressions. The location is easy south Austin, off of 5th street close to MoPac. N0 wait time, in and out in 30 minutes! yay I am busy. Her staff is great and friendly. I highly recommend Rejuvenate Austin!
